March 14, 2017 // Ottawa County, Michigan – Two hundred acres of industrially zoned, vacant land near the I-96 and new M-231 bypass in Crockery Township are one step closer to being ready for development, thanks to a completed “Energy Ready” assessment conducted by Consumers Energy. This site, the Crockery Township Industrial Development Park, is the first in Ottawa County to be assessed for the “Energy Ready” program.

“Ottawa County is a burgeoning leader in championing West Michigan’s growing business community,” said Jeff Mayes, Consumers Energy’s director of economic development. “We’re pleased to work with Lakeshore Advantage, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and other agencies to meet the long-term energy needs of new and expanding businesses at this Crockery Township location.”

The Consumers Energy team reached out to Lakeshore Advantage to help identify an Ottawa County site that would be an ideal candidate for the program.

Lakeshore Advantage worked with local experts Ken Brandsen and Cheryl Scales at Progressive AE, Dave Ash at Lakewood Construction and Kris DePree, Colliers International Holland, to review potential sites. The team worked together to identify Ottawa County locations and then selected the Crockery Township site as one that could highly benefit from the “Energy Ready” utility readiness assessment to move it forward as an attractive industrial business location.

“The partnership between utilities, business services and industry in West Michigan is outstanding,” said Kris DePree, President, Colliers International Holland and Lakeshore Advantage Board Treasurer. “The team worked fluidly together to encourage business and economic growth in West Michigan.”

Through the “Energy Ready” program, Consumers Energy assesses and determines the site’s energy use potential, including its existing energy infrastructure and estimated costs to adjust the site’s features, based on how an incoming business plans to use the site. Crockery Township Industrial Development Park advantages include: low and high voltage distribution availability, ideally up to 100 MW; competitive electric rate options; next to municipal water and wastewater; and availability of energy efficiency and construction incentives.

“With this additional assessment and marketing assistance, and its prime location, we feel we are in a great position to attract the right business here,” said Leon Stille, Crockery Township Supervisor. “We are pleased that Consumers Energy spent their time and initiative to facilitate this opportunity for development in Crockery Township.”

Consumers Energy’s statewide electric and natural gas service areas cover 68 counties in Michigan. The Crockery Township Industrial Development Park is the 13th “Energy Ready” site in Michigan.
