MSUBI Speaker Series - Steven Safferman
"Transforming waste to resource: decision support tools"
Wednesday, 3:30 PM October 29, 2014
MSU Bioeconomy Institute / 242 Howard Ave.
Steven Safferman, associate professor of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering and MSU Extension at Michigan State University, will discuss “Transforming Waste to Resource: Decision Support Tools,” on Wed., Oct. 29 at 3:30pm at the Michigan State University Bioeconomy Institute in Holland, Mich.
According to Safferman, “While we think of wastes as no longer having a useful purpose, agricultural wastes often contain valuable resources: water, nutrients, and embedded energy from carbon. Technologies are available to transform these wastes back to resources.”
In his presentation, Safferman will discuss two recently developed tools to facilitate the use of waste-to-resource technologies: the Michigan Waste Biomass Energy Inventory to Support Renewable Energy Development and the Anaerobic Digestion Development Iterative Tool (ADDIT).
